A new maximum likelihood detection for DAT system

In as earlier paper, the application of Viterbi algorithm to partial response on magnetic recording channel was discussed. We bare developed a new maximum likelihood detection (MLD) with the trellis path limited by channel coding. This new MLD is possible to be parallel decoding of byte datas and has an effect to decreasing error detections. Employing this new method, a transfer rate of 22.2Mbps and in areal recording density of 419Mbpi were achieved on DAT system. (Digital Audio Taperecorder). We have investigated symbol error rate and recorded video signal of Digital S.N.G.
