Adding Usage Cues to Desktop Applications

John Mueller · Apress eBooks · 2003

So far, the desktop sections of the book have examined such additions as tooltips and access to the Windows Accessibility features. However, we haven’t really discussed the subtle, yet essential, issue of cues. People rely on cues as a subtle means to interpret the meaning behind any contact. For example, body language is a major part of face-to-face communication. When people lack access to essential body language cues, such as during email communication, the communication often fails. Now, consider that most of us learn to communicate long before we learn to use applications and you begin to understand why cues are so important. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
