This paper presents AUTOSCOPE, a video vehicle detection system. The paper also describes how the system is used for automatic incident detection. The advantages to AUTOSCOPE lie in its multispot wide area wireless detection capabilities and the ability to extract traffic parameters, such as density, queue length and size, that cannot be easily obtained with conventional devices.
