Cognitive engineering of training systems for simulators

Dwight C. Hageman · 2003

The author maintains that human performance requirements for operation of high-technology equipment in complex operational environments have increased the criticality of cognitive process skills for operational performance. Critical on-task cognitive process skills are not demonstrated adequately, practiced consistently, or evaluated empirically in current training systems. An overview of training-system effectiveness factors is presented, along with a model of cognitive process skills for simulation training systems. Cognitive engineering requirements for effective training systems are discussed.>
