Lynne Baillie, David Benyon · Edinburgh Napier Research Repository (Edinburgh Napier University) · 2001

In this paper, we describe a series of workshops which were carried out in homes of fivefamilies in Scotland. The aim of the workshops was to explore the requirements that people have fornew technologies in a household environment. The workshops were video-taped, transcribed andanalysed from a number of perspectives. In this paper we concentrate on an analysis of the transcriptsfrom the perspective of ubiquitous computing. The designs of possible future technologies will also beexamined. Conclusions as to the applicability of the methods used here for future ubiquitous computingresearch and research in households are presented
