Fuzzy perceptual organization in image understanding

Anca Ralescu, J.G. Shanahan · 2002

We explore the use of fuzzy techniques for image understanding via perceptual organization. The framework to compute perceptual organization in the general context of computer vision incorporates a number of concepts from human visual analysis especially the Gestalt laws of organization. Fuzzy techniques are used for the definition and evaluation of the grouping/non-grouping properties as well as for the construction (inference) of structures from grouped input tokens. This approach is illustrated by experiments on 2D images of an office scene environment.>
