Compliance issues and IS degree programs
James Harris, Maeve Cummings · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2007
New graduates of IS degree programs are entering a profession which is increasingly bound by legal and regulatory requirements and this fact may come as a big surprise to many of these young people. This paper provides a brief overview of compliance issues and suggests that coverage of these issues be integrated into existing courses within the IS curriculum. Since compliance topics may not at first glance appear relevant to the more technically oriented IS students, news reports of security violations with associated compliance implications can be used to emphasize the urgency, relevance and impact of compliance issues.
