3/sup rd/ generation RACH transmission-a candidate

One of the functions for 3/sup rd/ generation medium access control (MAC) is to maintain high data throughput and to provide collision resolution. We investigate analytically the random access transmission with both non-power ramping and power-ramping retransmission. A message flow method is employed to analyze the throughput of both schemes. We further include extra randomization on the transmission delay to exploit the capture effect.
