Dynamic radio resource allocation considering QoS in UMTS network
Sung‐Eun Kim, Heechang Kim, John A. Copeland · 2003
A priority based dynamic radio resource allocation scheme which reduces call dropping during handoff in a UMTS network is proposed. To guarantee the diverse QoS requirements of integrated multimedia traffic with different priorities, we propose a new scheme that combines quality downgrading and queuing. Our scheme improves the traffic dropping rate by downgrading the QoS of existing lower priority users when the resource is not available for a new handoff request. We describe how a resource can be dynamically allocated for downgrading and upgrading according to the traffic type. We present a simulation result that shows the impact on traffic downgraded according to our scheme, as well as the decrease in call dropping. This scheme can be used for call admission control, as well as for handoff control, to decrease call dropping.
