Congestion control for intelligent networks

Xuan-Kien Pham, R. Betts · 2003

Due to the centralized control architecture in intelligent networks (IN), service control points (SCPs) working as central servers have to carry out a large number of service requests coming from underlying service switching points (SSPs). Appropriate congestion control, considering the special IN aspects, is required. In view of the importance of ensuring the SCP throughput during network overload, it was judged worthwhile to perform a comparative study of the effectiveness of two different SCP congestion control methods. The first one is the call rate based control using the call gapping or leaky bucket principle, the second is the window method. This study required the development of a simulation program, to determine the call throughput resulting from use of these methods under various types of overload traffic. The results of these simulations are presented and discussed.>
