The application of neural networks to tactical and sensor data fusion problems

This paper describes the application of neural network technology in the problem domain of tactical and sensor data fusion. The first section of this paper introduces and reviews the problems presented by data fusion and the modern naval environment is used as an example application domain. The tasks of target identification and task identification are highlighted as suitable areas for the application of neural network technology. A description is given of how a prototype target identification and target task identification system, based on integrated neural network technology, has been constructed using the Aberdeen Neural Development System.
