The inherent parallelism of genetic algorithms is to be exploited by a new, low-cost, platform that is hosted by a Sun workstation. A prototype module, comprising four SuperSPARC chips, will be completed by June 1994. Following this the modularity of the design will be exploited to embrace a larger number of processors and consequently provide a high degree of parallelism. The SPARC-GAP platform is to be evaluated on a number of applications.
