Intelligent network services using a service switching node

S. Bootman, K. Krikor · 2003

Most CCS7-based enhanced services for non-SPC (stored-program-control) offices can be offered through a switching service node (SSN). An SSN would be positioned as an intermediate access point where a number of non-SPC end offices would derive enhanced services. The end offices need only to provide trunking to the SSN to activate a particular service. The DEX MegaHub, an SSN architecture based on a highly distributed network of microprocessors that are interconnected through an internal message transfer network (MTN) with a peak throughput of over 500 thousand packet/s, is described. With the MTN it is possible to offer intelligent network services and signaling transfer point (STP) and service control point (SCP) capabilities in conjunction with regular switching functions.>
