Electromagnetic fields from power lines

Robert G. Olsen · 2002

The magnetic fields from a power line can be computed given a knowledge of the currents and geometry of the line. A statistical method for predicting the magnetic fields given the inherent indeterminancy of the currents is presented. Results for typical and reduced magnetic field power lines are developed using a zeroth order model for predicting the magnetic field cumulative probability distribution near a power line. Emphasis is placed on the ELF magnetic fields because these are the subject of most recent health effects research and regulatory activity.>
