In this paper, a new multiple-beam adaptive array architecture is presented. High-speed real-time multiple-beam forming can be realized using analog-DSP hybrid beamforming approach combined with Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) concept. Unlike the conventional analog beamforming architecture, the number of analog mixers can be significantly reduced so that the multiple-beam smart antenna system can be constructed without great expense. The system concept on the proposed multi-beam beamformer is validated using a mathematical simulation model in MATLAB. Design considerations on the hardware implementation are discussed using the circuit simulation model.
