Usability engineering and software engineering : How do they relate?

Simon Hakiel · 1997

Despite continuing developments in the disciplines of Human-Computer Interaction and Usability Engineering, software products continue to fall short of their usage requirements in the field. One approach to resolving this problem is to recognise that design for use, or product design, invokes very different skills from those represented by software engineering. This paper examines implications for the relationship between usability engineering and software engineering deliverables that follow from this distinction.
