An architectural framework to define the componentry for adaptive enabling technology

Future workstations will be required to exhibit some of the characteristics of an 'intelligent assistant'. This will necessitate functionality that is able to 'observe' the work of the user and, by 'recognising' patterns of style and work, automatically to configure the interface, tools and applications to suit the user's behaviour and to offer options that anticipate the user's needs. The overall target implied by this goal was named the 'adaptive enabling environment' (AEE).
