Fuzzy and multivalues logic
P. J. Macvicar-Whelan · International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic · 1976
Image formation by a simple convex lens illustrates well known aspects of fuzziness and probability theory. In contrast to this case, classification of a variable such as human height into classes labeled linguistically as TALL, VERY TALL, etc. yields results that are difficult to interpret either as an example of a multivalued logic or as a fuzzy set as formulated by ZADEH. These considerations imply some characteristic properties of a practical fuzzy set theory. Also implied is the need for more experimental work to lay a firm foundation for a practical fuzzy logic.
