Role of multiprocessors in the nuclear power industry: comments on determining factors

Ewing L. Lusk, Ross Overbeek · OSTI OAI (U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information) · 1985

The rapid development of commercially available multiprocessors offers opportunities for applications that require unusual amounts of computation. However, the exploitation of these machines will require significant software development efforts. In this paper, we will present projections on the characteristics of machines that will become widely available and draw conclusions about the appropriate methodology for software development. Our perspective is that of a user with substantial computational requirements and a desire to utilize the new capabilities rapidly. 8 refs.
