Nonprofit opportunities for computing students: volunteer, internship, and employment
John Minor Ross · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2012
Nonprofit organizations play an important role in mitigating the plights of many, through the transfer of resources from those with more to those with less. To better accomplish their goals, most nonprofits, not surprisingly, need ongoing capital infusions. In the past, organizations had to sponsor fundraising events or rely on mailings. In today's world, however, much of the fund-raising and communication has shifted over to the Internet and related technologies. As such, nonprofits now rely heavily on technically-skilled employees. Technology students should be encouraged to consider interning, or volunteering, with nonprofits as a way to learn the terminology of the philanthropic field that would aid graduates later seeking employment in this niche.
