Social Construction of Knowledge
Angi Voß, Thomas Kreifelts · Berichte des German Chapter of the ACM · 1998
The term “social construction of knowledge” is introduced and a system is proposed that facilitates this process. Knowledge is based on information that may have to be retrieved from vast, dynamic and unknown information spaces. The goal of knowledge construction may be vague, such that the tasks to achieve it evolve incrementally as information is gathered and insights increase. The collaborative construction of knowledge introduces further challenges and stresses aspects such as validity, trust, relevance, and popularity of knowledge. A combination of groupware, text and data mining tools, software agents and a knowledge building component is proposed to address all these issues involved.
