Optimization Through Evolution and Recombination

For example, in a conventional digital computer information flows back and forth between the arithmetic unit and the memory. These connections constitute channels. The arithmetic unit itself may be considered to be a channel between its input and output terminals. In an analogue computer there are integrator units, curve readers, and curve drawing units which are connected by channels. We count the number of bits per second that flow through all the channels within a computer and this we define as the processing rate.
