Statistical Multiplexing Of Low-Speed Digitized Voice And Data Channels

M. Destree · 2005

Typical problems related to the integration of digitized voice and data traffic into general purpose networks are outlined. A particular solution is presented in the case of a transparent intelligent network (CODEX 6000 Series Intelligent Network Processors) where data traffic and low speed digitized voice (TSP 2400 bps VOCODER) are statistically multiplexed. Performances were analyzed using network supplied statistics as well as external measurements under variable conditions of data/voice mix, data traffic burstiness, number of hops and circuit character istics. Some typical applications are then described and their economics discussed.
