Categorizing the school experience of entering computing students

Freshman engineering students' backgrounds are quite varied. The ages of the students, at points along a common learning sequence: start the computer, use applications, program, varied. When motivated, students readily found ways to augment their school experience to further their interests in computer science. Teachers helped encourage students to focus on a computing career.
