Access Plus Security

Lynne Weber, Jessica Schomberg · Music Reference Services Quarterly · 2005

By 2004, the 4500 + disc collection in the newly remodeled Suyematsu Music Library at Minnesota State University, Mankato, had outgrown its accession-number identification system. The authors discuss reasons for selecting ANSCR (Alpha-Numeric System for Classification of Recordings)and describe steps in the conversion procedure. A workflow, designed for one graduate student and undergraduate assistants, included installation of each CD in a Checkpoint Security case. At the conclusion of the project, the CD collection was more easily accessible, more secure, and student workers had the satisfaction of having contributed to a meaningful task.
