A Unified Model of Non-Panmictic Population Structures in Evolutionary Algorithms

Joachim Sprave · 1999

This paper starts with a brief overview of other approaches to model, classify, or analyze population structures. Then, a general framework for the formal description of population structures is introduced, followed by examples of common population structures expressed by means of the given model. Finally, as an application of the formal framework, a method for calculating growth rates and takeover times of arbitrary population structures is presented.
