Cache conscious dynamic memory allocation

Christopher Cyll · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2004

Today, almost all software relies on dynamic memory allocation. In some programming languages, it is impossible to even write Hello World! without implicitly calling the allocator. Yet the effect of dynamic memory allocation on cache performance is relatively unstudied. In addition, the code produced by the leading researchers, Chilimbi et al., to investigate this phenomenon appears to be proprietary, making it difficult to study and build upon their work.
