A US STANDARD IN THE OFFING BUT COULD IT ADVERSELY IMPACT ON A GLOBAL STANDARD

In this article, the author describes efforts by U.S. standards developers towards setting a direction for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) standards development. Three potential routes are available for developing an American ITS standard: 1) harmonize with the Japanese, 2) adopt a pre-exiting wireless Internet standard, 3) or work with the Motorola Freespace concept.
