Abstract Variations are valid departures from the normal. One pictures the classical music composer writing variations for a given theme, the jazz player improvising on a melody, or the Indian percussionist improvising on a rhythm. Each variation is valid in itself, and is a departure or variation from some normal base or theme. We note that variations are different from noise. Each variation is a valid departure from the normal, whereas noise is incorrect or illegal deviation from the normal.
