Algebra Cryptanalysis of Fault Attack on A5/3

Lei Li, Wenbao Han, Zhang Xue · International Conference on Electric Information and Control Engineering · 2012

In this paper, we propose two types of fault attacks on A5/3 by using algebra cryptanalysis. One type is the fault injection attack with assuming that the number of rounds in KASUMI of A5/3 can be decreased, and by using SAT solver to solve the equations, we can get the 64-bit session key in several seconds. The other is the differential fault attack with assuming that a fault occurs on one bit at the beginning of the last two rounds, and with solving the equations, testing the result 2^33 KASUMI encryptions are needed to get the session key. We get the conclusion that the A5/3 is vulnerable under fault attack.
