A fault monitoring architecture for the diagnosis of hardware and software faults in manufacturing systems
Martin Stanton · 2003
A classification is presented for faults and failures in manufacturing systems. The basis for classification is the apparent source of the fault or failure. This leads to the conclusion that a number of hardware failures in manufacturing systems may actually be caused by failures in the software. A method is then presented for the detection and diagnosis of faults that is based on a Petri net design approach. This method allows the distinction between a fault caused by a hardware failure and one caused by an error in the software.
