This paper presents an intermedial approach to the\tanalysis of two musical\tworks, both of which seek to create a sonic\tanalogue of the\tsame Paul Klee painting: 'The\t Twittering Machine'(1922). Andrew May's electroacoustic composition 'Twittering\tMachine(after Paul Klee)' (1998),\tand Harrison Birtwistle's avant-garde piece 'Carmen Arcadie Mechanicae Perpetuum'(1977).
