. Systems must support context awareness for mobile applications to permit adaptation to heterogeneity of hosts and networks, and variations in the user's environment. We believe that context aware management of resources provides the most reliable basis for managing the non-deterministic behaviour of mobile systems. 1 Introduction The integration of computing and wireless communications will facilitate mobile multimedia applications in many areas. A mobile computing device could range from notebook size to a web-enabled telephone, with considerable variation in processing power and user interface capabilities. Network connections also range from highbandwidth LANs to low and variable bandwidth wireless. Hand-held devices often exhibit extremes of limitation and variation, and so are of particular interest.
