Learning Sensitivity and Specificity of Laboratory Diagnosis of Thyroid Disorders Using Consult Learning System™ — An Example of Euthyroid Sick Syndrome

Consult Learning System, an artificial intelligence with statistical pattern recognition system, was applied to the prospective study of 608 patients on whom thyroid function testing was requested. From this knowledge base, 25 patients with the euthyroid sick syndrome were identified. This paper describes the application of consult learning system to the learning of multi-dimensional sensitivity and specificity of thyroid diagnostic tests. These results are useful in the laboratory for the most efficient diagnosis of euthyroid sick patients.
