A novel AC electric arc furnace model for power quality study is presented in this paper. Static model is based on the differential equation established by E. Acha, A. Semlyn etc, to depict arc voltage according to the Energy Conservation Principle. Fourier analysis results of arc voltage generated in the static model show that the harmonic distribution is entirely consistent with the actual situation. Thus accuracy of the static model is proved. Unlike the previous dynamic modeling approach using band-pass white noise as modulation wave, in this paper, a random chaotic signal generated by Chua's chaotic circuit is used as modulation wave to complete the simulation. The simulation results match the measured electric arc furnace waveform, which proves that the model proposed can be used in power quality issues caused by harmonic and current fluctuation.
