PREDECESSOR AND SUCCESSOR IN ROUNDING TO NEAREST

We give simple and e-cient algorithms to compute the predecessor and the successor of a ∞oating-point number in IEEE 754. The algorithms use only standard ∞oating-point operations in rounding to nearest. Using this they may improve the quality of interval arithmetic with simulated directed rounding.
