A Replicated File System for Wide-Area Networks

Gianluca Dini, Sape J. Mullender · 1993

In this paper we describe the design of the Huygens replicating file system for use in wide-area networks. The file system will implement full consistency in the absence of failures, attempt to provide full consistency in the presence of failures and allow reading of inconsistent data when full consistency cannot be provided. The file system will be as available as the consistency requirements allow.
