Piloting POGIL in an introductory Python programming course

For the several years the presenter has been integrating an introduction to the Python programming language with the use of the executable flowchart software Visual Logic in an introductory programming course that is largely comprised of first-year students. The course has been taught in a traditional lecture/lab style. The first half of the course allowed students to learn the fundamental of programming using Visual Logic and the second part of the course focused on implementing these structures in Python. In general, it seemed easier for the students to learn the Python language after learning Visual Logic.
