A STUDY ON CHARACTER-PATTERNS BASED UPON THE THEORY OF PSYCHOLOGICAL POTENTIAL FIELD

Zensho Yokose · Japanese Psychological Research · 1970

Twenty students of Ss observed modified alphabetical characters and identified their names. Those specific modifications were made by changing the length of line or dislocating some parts of character elements. The state of distribution of the fields around these characters were determined on the basis of the author's theoretical formula on the psychological potential field. The results showed that the similarity in the degree of identification of modified characters is quite consistent with that of their distribution modes of the psychological potential field. These facts are suggestive to develop automatic reading machines which can read the hand-written characters.
