Soft-Core Processors in Computer Engineering Education
C. Arlen Planting · Scholar Works (Boise State University) · 2008
Changes to computer engineering education that would improve software development skills were initiated at Boise State University to expand students' capabilities to develop and demonstrate unified hardware/software functionality. The success of the updates is demonstrated in case studies for an experimental embedded systems course and an updated microprocessors course. Common features of these courses included utilization of a soft-core processor on a reconfigurable hardware platform, and teaching of a subset of the C programming language.
