Strain gages are widely used not only for strain measurement but also in various types of sensors when the input physical variable is transformed in deformation of a part of the sensor : force and torque transducers, acceleration and pressure sensors. This communication presents a new digital signal conditioner for strain gage sensors designed for a good precision and a large bandwidth response. It is based on direct A/D conversion and digital correction of the signal by means of an autocalibration procedure. A fast analog output is provided by D/A conversion. The instrument comprises a microcontroller used for corrections computation and control of measurement and calibration sequences.
