Application of Plausible Reasoning to AI-Based Control Systems

H.R. Berenji, Henry Lum · American Control Conference · 1987

In recent years, the development of knowledge based systems (e.g., expert systems) to deal with real life problems has been one of the most successful application areas of the research in artificial intelligence. However, a major issue in developing these systems is their capability to deal with uncertainty in the problem domain. It is important that the developers of these AI based systems become familiar with the current available techniques of uncertainty management in AI. To aid this infusion, this paper reviews some of the most significant recent advances in plausible reasoning in Artificial Intelligence. Applications of these techniques in Control Systems are also discussed.
