Derek Scott Henderson, a Durban boy, educated at St. John's, Rhodes, Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard, was one of a very few people worldwide who trod the road in the 1950s that led to the unbelievable explosion of computers in our lives today, and to computer science as the academic subject as we know it.
