Hardware and software debugging tools for multiprocessors
Franco Maddaleno, Francesco Gregoretti · OSTI OAI (U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information) · 1983
Debugging multiprocessor systems is a complex problem because traditional tools like ICES, tracers, etc. lose their usefulness in environments where there is no single control of the computation and of the information transfer. Powerful debugging tools must rely on system capabilities to confine, detect, and categorize errors at different levels of abstraction. Therefore, debugging requirements should be taken into account from the very beginning of a project as primary system design choices both for the hardware and the software. The authors describe debugging facilities developed for the TOMP-80 multiprocessor, supported by MUMICRO Project of Computer Science Program of Italian National Research Council. 5 references.
