In this paper, we propose the use of linear interpolation for low-pass transitional filters applied to six classical polynomial filters (Chebyshev, Legendre, Butterworth, Bessel, Gauss and synchronously tuned). The design is achieved taking into account a prescribed specification, leading to better characteristics of time and phase. With this approach it is possible to design transitional filters that may have an improved performance over those based on exponential interpolation. In order to facilitate the choice of the best transitional filter, we propose a merit figure. An example demonstrating the results and effectiveness of the new approach is presented.
