Interrupt Driven Serial Input/output
Charles E. Nunnally, Donald R. Anderson · 2005
The use of microcomputers is rapidly expanding in our everyday design activities. This expansion will many times require that this microcomputer system communicatewith a person through a CRT, printer etc. or directly with another computer. This communication linkage is quite often serial in nature. It is the intent of this note to address an asynchronous serial interface communications interface which is interrupt driven rather than the more common status 1/0 only. Details will be presented pertaining to the use of a smart USART chip in an interrupt configuration. Supporting 1/0 driven software for this configuration will be discussed. Special requirements due to this configuration in both the hardware and the software area will be highlighted.
