The ready availability of PCs with sound cards offers the possibility of acquiring high quality dynamic data with very inexpensive hardware. However, poor test procedures can result in serious distortion in recorded data. Attention to the basics of signal processing such as impedance matching and proper choice of input levels can result in well-recorded data with little monetary investment beyond a basic PC.
