Remote gas conversion in worldscale methanol plant

J.R. LeBlane, Julie Rovner · OSTI OAI (U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information) · 1990

The authors' company is using a methanol plant to help move Chilean natural gas to distance markets. The plant's capacity is 2,500 short tons per day (stpd) making it the world's largest single-train methanol plant in successful operation. This paper discusses how design and construction of the project used new and innovative technology along with computer aided engineering execution. The results included: completion ahead of schedule, smooth startup, highly energy efficient operation and exceptionally high serviceability for a plant located in a remote part of the world.
