DCR application in the MCI network

A. Khalil · 1997

Summary form only given. Dynamically controlled routing (DCR) is a centralized, adaptive network traffic management system which significantly enhances network performance and survivability. In a DCR network, switches communicate with a network processor which computes routing recommendations for overflow traffic based on near real time network status and traffic volume information. A DCR network, when properly dimensioned, can be brought up to a very high level of trunk efficiency with limited blocking. Failures of moderate magnitude can be well absorbed by DCR because of its near real time control on alternate routing. An analysis of the MCI network with DCR is presented as well as experience since its introduction in the network.
