Broadband Access and Network Evolution
David J. Wright · 2004
Part 3 of this book shows how some of the technologies described in Parts 1 and 2 can be used in a rapidly growing area of the network: broadband access. The focus is on Wireless ATM, Voice over Cable and Voice over DSL, since they are the major competing broadband access technologies. Between them they use the QoS covered in Chapter 2, the distributed architecture described in Chapter 3, Voice over IP from Chapter 4 and Voice over ATM from Chapter 5. The book concludes with a section indicating strategies for network operators to use in order to migrate voice to packet transport in different parts of the network.
